Description

To Ms. Damien;

I'm sorry for my handwriting in this letter...I'm a bit stressed for lack of sleep and have been working on my puppet's prototype for quite some time now. This is actually why I'm not handing in my assignment in person.

I've sort of made a mess of my dorm room, and I can't really seem to get to the door right now. I've slipped this letter under the door, and I'm hoping some student will deliver it to you in time to meet the deadline for the exam. If not, I'm recording the date here so you'll know that I'm not cheating, and hopefully will be a little...lenient.

I've included with the letter my very...very rough early drafts of my blueprints for my puppet, whom I've tentatively named Carbon. As I'm sure you've heard by now, my element in magic is that of fire, and I've wanted to somehow implement it into my puppet. I thought that if I used the element of magic i specialize in, I could create a more powerful puppet that's easier to work with then, say, something that totally goes against who I am inside.

Regarding the questions you wished for me to answer from the lessons...I believe many of them are contained among my scrawls of handwriting in the blueprints, but in case one is missing or you're unable to read my chicken scratch on that piece, I'll try to write it neatly here;

-the puppet will be made of a semi-malleable metallic skeleton capable of dislocating joints to help it move through tight spaces. Its small size also helps it maneuver around, although for now, it won't carry much physical strength. I'm hoping that if I can control the magic, I can make it stronger, without actually having to beef up its structure.

-i won't know exactly how quick it reacts to situations until we bring the thing to life. Right now, as it is I have no idea how to go about doing that, but I've built a tiny furnace in the head to act as the casing for the flame, the "soul" of the puppet to reside in.

-well the thing has eyes, (or, really, portholes cut into the furnace...) so I suppose they maybe count as senses? I suppose this answer refers to the above one; I won't know how well it reacts to things until it's up and about.

-Commands. Yes, I'm hoping that by using my element, mixed with the magic it takes to make puppets, I can actually force the little bugger to obey me if it decides to rebel against me. It seems sinister, but I'd rather not take any chances. I don't want anything else burning down on campus.

Anyway, I do hope you get this letter in a respectable time frame and I will come see you as soon as I can to receive my grade in person.

Your pupil,

Grema Hattle
